What is North Carolina Pre-Kindergarten (NC Pre-K)?

North Carolina Pre-Kindergarten is a voluntary pre-kindergarten program designed to prepare at risk four-year-olds in North Carolina for success in school. High NC Pre-K Logoquality childcare centers and the Beaufort County Schools partner to provide a developmentally appropriate curriculum and structured environment for students.


To be eligible for the North Carolina Pre-K program, children must:

Be four years old by August 31st and be eligible for kindergarten the following year.
Be a resident of Beaufort County.
Meet the family size and income requirements set by the state of North Carolina.
Children of active duty military families are also eligible.


To apply for the program you can submit an application and required documentation to the Beaufort-Hyde Partnership for Children at 979 Washington Square Mall, Washington, NC.

Required Paperwork:

Child’s Certified Birth Certificate
Child’s Immunization Record
2 Proof of Residency (light bill, gas bill, mortgage or rental agreement); Signed lease agreement; rental receipt that shows address
Proof of Household Income (this includes child support and or step parent’s income)
