Community Partner First South Bank Helps “Paint the Town Blue”.

The Beaufort/Hyde Partnership for Children annually recognizes a local community individual for his or her commitment to serving young children and their families in Beaufort or Hyde counties.  Ms. Emma Howard of Washington served on the Partnership’s board of directors as the secretary for over 12 years. During that time, Ms. Emma shared her devoted spirit and passion for positively impacting young children and their families in our community and she inspired others to do the same.

Ms. Emma served as an elementary teacher in Beaufort County for many years prior to her service on the Partnership’s board, according to Woolard. The Partnership’s leadership made the decision to name the Children’s Service Award after Ms. Emma when she retired from the organization’s board in June 2011 out of love and respect for her tireless efforts to the community, of which she is still involved and active in many organizations.  According to Lisa Woolard, Executive Director of the Partnership, “Memories of Ms. Emma include alwaysseeing her with wearing a hat and a smile!  And watch out – she is the best fundraiser ever!  She will talk you into a ticket for a spaghetti dinner in a heartbeat!”

The categories of nomination include:  early care and education, child health, early intervention, parenting education, business, family support, community, civic, advocacy and public office.

The winner is usually surprised by the announcement during the annual meeting. Previous winners include: John Everett, Trish Wall & Donna Pittman, Elena Cameron, Sharon Spencer, Ray Moore, Lynn Younce, Kelli Russell, Teresa Smith,  Sonya Toman and Kimberly Grimes.
