Who We Are

The Beaufort-Hyde Partnership for Children (BHPC) provides programs, services and support for children between the ages of birth to 12 to empower them to be successful in school and in life. We provide opportunities to strengthen early experiences for children while also engaging families and early educators in high-quality early care to support the growth of the “whole child”.

In carrying out our work as part of the larger Smart Start system of agencies serving young children in our state, we embrace a shared vision of investing in our children in a way that encourages us to consider the needs of each child. As the lead organization in our service area for young children and their families, we collaborate with public and private partners for the success of our community. BHPC is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization.

The Smart Start Network

Smart Start was created in 1993 as an innovative solution to a problem: Children were coming to school unprepared to learn. Policymakers recognized that progress would require tapping into the same innovative spirit that inspired private sector advances, and therefore, established Smart Start as a public/private partnership.

Independent, private organizations work in all 100 North Carolina counties through the North Carolina Partnership for Children and 75 local Partnerships. The power of Smart Start is that it delivers outcomes by giving communities local control to determine the best approach to achieving them. The Beaufort-Hyde Partnership for Children is the local Smart Start affiliate for Beaufort and Hyde counties.

The Partnership’s 2020 Strategic Plan provides the roadmap for funding priorities and support for programs that will help children and families thrive.
